Sustainability
We are committed to the planet, to Mexico, and to our people.
Given the present reality of global warming on our planet, OLEOMEX is actively instituting environmental policies to mitigate this effect.
We strive to minimize risks and leverage cutting-edge technological opportunities to strengthen our business units and ensure their sustainability, financial viability, and strict dherence to both national and international regulations.

Corporate Sustainability Policy

Our corporate sustainability policy is holistic. All our investment projects and productive activities are based on respect and care for the environment, job creation, and the economic viability of each of our business units to achieve environmental sustainability.
In this regard, we aim not only to care for the environment but also to ensure the longevity of our business models and the permanence of jobs. To achieve this, we maintain a model of continuous technological innovation to establish increasingly efficient production systems in the use of inputs, resources, and energy.
In other words, we also continually strive for long-term sustainability.
Strategy and Governance.
We define corporate strategies and policies to ensure comprehensive sustainability in each of our business centers, aiming to promote environmentally friendly and resilient production schemes.
Our Sustainability Approach.
For several decades, the concept of sustainability has been a fundamental part of strategic plans in both productive and governmental activities at all levels.
Vertical integration with organic and precision agriculture.
We have strong vertical integration in productive chains such as agave-tequila and oil palm-oil for high-level food industry. Regarding agave cultivation, we have OMRI certification, certifying that the management of all our agave plantations are 100% organic.
Our oil palm plantations have RSPO certification, indicating zero deforestation. Both plantations feature precision technological packages in key aspects such as product use for nutrition, early detection systems, and management of pests and diseases, as well as permanent monitoring systems for good agricultural practices that prevent and minimize greenhouse gas emissions, reduce soil erosion and loss, and soil and water contamination.
Founded and grown with a zero change in land use policy.
Since its inception, all the land dedicated to our primary production processes, which sustain our vertical integration from the field, has included zero land use change and zero deforestation as selection criteria for properties. Our corporate policy embraces this premise through international programs and certifications that document our commitment to this Zero Deforestation criterion.
In this context, it is important to mention that we were the first company in Mexico to achieve RSPO international certification. Our oil palm production and each of our properties are documented and include a comprehensive study ensuring that each and every one of our plantations has adhered to this policy of zero land use change and zero deforestation from the outset.
Climate Change Risk Management Policy
We aim to contribute decisively and efficiently to mitigate the effects of global warming through environmentally responsible production processes. This entails significant investments in technologies aimed at self-generation of clean energy, decarbonization, and comprehensive utilization of by-products to enhance energy efficiency and mobility.
Transversal Axis
We investment in three specific intersecting areas:

1. Water Management
For several decades, water has been one of the most important topics on all environmental and governmental agendas. At OLEOMEX, we have taken special care regarding this resource and have permanent programs aimed at addressing all crucial aspects related to access, high efficiency in utilization, and final reuse of this vital resource.
To this end, we are constantly updating technology to ensure rational and efficient water use through condensate recovery systems and water ultrafiltration for reuse in processes and boilers. Our water policy is based on the following strategic pillars: Efficiency, Reduction, Recirculation, Water Footprint, and Full Compliance with standards
2. Energy Eficiency
Electricity is a vital input for any industrial production process. For OLEOMEX, access to energy is a highly strategic issue, and we seek to generate a significant percentage of our demand through clean alternatives such as photovoltaic technology and biogas digestion/utilization for cogeneration processes.
Furthermore, we implement intelligent systems for efficient energy use to reduce the net demand.
Likewise, high calorific efficiency in our processes is essential to us, along with the use of technologies to reduce net gas consumption.

3. CO2 Footprint
The concept of CO2 footprint has gained significance since the Rio Summit in 1992 and has developed along three relevant pathways: regulatory, commercial, and financial. OLEOMEX has adopted this issue as a comprehensive corporate policy, aiming to implement the necessary technology to reduce our carbon footprint and certify these efforts.
We undertake concrete actions such as precision and organic agriculture in our plantations, as well as the implementation of good agricultural practices. We take specific mitigation measures for self-generation of clean energy, decarbonization, and efficient energy use systems, both electrical and thermal. All of these initiatives directly contribute to the reduction of our CO2 footprint. We operate in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
4. Waste Management
This policy includes two general axes: the first refers to compliance with current regulations:
General Law for the Prevention and Comprehensive Management of Waste (LGPGIR)
Regulations of the LGPGIR
NOM-083-SEMARNAT
NOM-098-SEMARNAT
Applicable Mexican Standards (NMX)
A second strategy refers to a circular economy approach through reuse and resource efficiency. This comprehensive program, based on a waste diagnosis of each company, seeks to identify products that can be repaired, refurbished, remanufactured, and/or recycled, essentially aiming to reduce “use and dispose” schemes while decreasing waste generation, pollution, and carbon or other greenhouse gas emissions.
